grace abounds {thoughts on Romans 5}

This world can be a hard place to live. It is full of struggles, confusion, and death. But, for the promise of life to come, we have hope and joy from the love of God that is poured into us when we accept His grace (Romans 5:3-5).

Romans 5 is an exclamation of God’s amazing grace! I have not kept all of the holy law (Romans 3:23), but I must stand before the holy and righteous God, in life and in death (2 Corinthians 5:10). I am graciously granted access to His throne by my faith in the One He sent to stand in my place for judgment (Romans 5:2). Jesus Christ stands up for me. He defends my case before God, offering His own life as the payment due for my sin (Romans 6:23).

I truly can’t comprehend God’s amazing grace. Trying to fully understand His plan inspires such awe and wonder at His great love for us, His rebelious and quite imperfect children. “But where sin [abounds], grace [abounds] much more (Romans 5:20).” I stand in awe.

Sin and death abound here and now, but grace abounds much more, giving us joy in life and victory through Christ over death (Romans 5:20-21). This is why I choose joy. I choose victory!
